  • T Paulo Urcanse Prize For Literary Excellence Finalists: An Announcement

On behalf of the estate of T Paulo Urcanse, and with the full weight and authority of the Editorial Staff here at High Horse, it is my distinct honor to announce this year’s winners and finalists for the first annual T Paulo Urcanse Prize For Literary Excellence, as follows:

1st Place: Still Life of an Iris in Spring – to Fitchburg, Wisconsin; & The Odyssey

    By Ouristoprous

    2nd Place: The Singleton

    By A.J. Brown

    3rd Place: Facial

    By Henry Luzzatto

    4th Place: Names for Things

    By Amber Burke

    5th Place: Clarence Go Boom

    By Roger Ellis

We received over 300 submissions for our inaugural prize. It was a great pleasure reading all of the wonderful writing we received, and we are flattered by everyone’s enthusiasm in submitting, and of course in memorializing through their efforts the timeless work of the great Portuguese writer, of whom this prize is dedicated.

In the weeks to come, we will begin releasing the work of our selected winners, so please be on the lookout for that. We hope to offer more opportunities like this in the future. Additionally, we are always looking for writing to feature outside our contest windows, so if you’ve got something that might please the blessed soul of T Paulo, or even lowly chunks of coal like the Editors of High Horse, send an email with your submission attached to therealhighhorse@gmail.com.

    All blessings,

    The Editors
