Poems by Guy Cramer

THE DAY CAVITY SAM SPOKE

asking for his funny bone back,

his spare ribs and wishbone too.

I told him if he wanted them back,

he’d have to take everything.

I replanted his broken heart,

his Adam’s apple full of cyanide,

his butterflies and the charley horse.

My face red with fire,

God-like,

over his flashing nose.

BUMPY RIDE

Listening to the neighbors
at it again.
Things haven’t been the same
since the spicy cubes.
They rush the mailman
every Friday.
Limping away,
he warns them of a dog
on this same route
who recently ate
an entire package.
The lawn needs trimming,
the gutters need clearing,
the daffodils out back open up
for the clouds rolling in
licking their lips.

BABY HEAD No. 1

First they laid you
on your back,
then your side,
then your other side,
then your stomach,
trying to make
an already round head
fit into the right hat.

EMAIL BEFORE COFFEE

The ad said Join Prime,

but for a second

I thought it said

John Prine

and I thought of you

and the worn out copy

of Bruised Orange

probably still stuck

in the CD player of your truck.

Whoever drives it now

can’t get it out, your voice

taking over, still skipping

on “So help me I know”.

THINGS THAT KEEP ME AWAKE AT NIGHT

No. 1

That girl

on Halloween

wearing

angle wings

and a crooked

wire hanger halo

whose

empty cup

I never

brought

back.

No. 2

Electroshock therapy making a comeback

and me wanting to be in style.

No. 3

The YouTube thumbnail with the title: WHY I’M A CHUBBY CHASER

And I can’t see how I’d get out of this room alive.

##

The YouTube thumbnail with the title: $4 AMISH FIX FOR DEADLY HOTHOUSE

And all the hundreds of dogs left in cars each year.

ABOUT TERRY

Any news from a crow
would be welcome
on a day like today.

They should make safer drugs.
There should be more collisions
that put a person back together.

HEAVEN & HELL

Neither here

nor there.

Somewhere

in between.

Guy Cramer writes things, he wrote an even bigger thing, a novella called COWBOY MELT he’s self-publishing later this year.
